Chapter 36
A Prayer for God's People

36. Have mercy upon us, O Lord God of all, and behold us, and send your fear upon all the nations that seek not after thee, lift up your hand against the strange nations, and let them see your power, for as you were sanctified in us before them, so be magnified in them before us, and let them know thee, as we have known thee, that there is no God but only thou, O God, and shew new wonders, and make a change of signs, for gather all the tribes of Jacob together, and inherit them, as of old, and have mercy upon the people that is called by thy name, and upon Israel, whom thou hast named your firstborn. Be merciful unto Jerusalem, your holy city, the place of your rest, for fill Sion with your unspeakable oracles, and your people with your glory, give testimony unto those that you have possessed from the beginning, and raise up prophets that have been in your name, reward them that wait for thee, and let thy prophets be found faithful, for hear, O Lord, the prayer of thy servants, according to the blessing of Aaron over your people, and direct us in the way of righteousness, and let all those that dwell upon the earth know that you are God, the eternal Lord. The belly devours all meat, yet is one meat better than another, so is health better than all gold, and a good mind than all riches, for the heart of a man changes his countenance, whether it be for good or evil, and a merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but a man's heart is a great trouble, and all their travail is a great trouble. The heart of a man changes his countenance, and so does it happen, for the spirit of those that fear the Lord shall live, and the spirit of the wicked shall not live, but every woman may be married to a good man, and he that has a faithful wife is rich. A good man will not be cast off, but he that is without understanding will be put to shame, and a man that is without understanding will be despised, for he that is without understanding will be despised, and he that is without understanding will be despised.
