Chapter 40
The Hardships of Life

40. Great travail is created for all men, and a heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, from the day that they go out of their mother's womb, till the day that they return to the mother of all things, namely, the earth, for the things that concern their heart are the fear of death, and wrath, and strife, and a sword of death, and all the wickedness, and all the trouble, and all the affliction, and all the distress, and all the weariness, and all the unrighteousness. From him that sits in a throne of glory unto him that is humbled in earth and ashes, from him that wears purple and a crown unto him that is clothed with a linen frock, there is wrath, envy, trouble, tumult, fear of death, and strife, and a sword of death, and all the wickedness, and all the trouble, and all the affliction, and all the distress, and all the weariness, and all the unrighteousness. All things that are of the earth shall turn to the earth again, and all the wickedness, and all the trouble, and all the affliction, and all the distress, and all the weariness, and all the unrighteousness, for life is hard, and sorrow consumes the heart. The fear of the Lord is a gift of the Lord, and it will keep you from all evil, for the fear of the Lord is as a watered garden, and a treasure of comfort, and the fear of the Lord is a gift of the Lord, and it will keep you from all evil. The spirit of those that fear the Lord shall live, for their hope is in him that saves them, for he that is tried shall find understanding, and he that has experience shall be filled with wisdom. Riches are not comely for a niggard, and what should an envious man do with money? He that gathers by an unrighteous hand scatters in the time of his trouble, and he that is wise will be temperate in his life, and he that is not temperate will be despised. The substance of the proud shall be dried up, and a beggar's staff shall come to his hand, and the children of the ungodly shall not multiply, and the seed of the righteous shall be established, and the children of the ungodly shall not multiply. A wise servant shall have the inheritance of his master, and a godly man shall have a good reward, for the blessing of the Lord is the reward of the godly, and in a short time he will make his blessing to flourish. The tear of a woman is a great trouble, and all their travail is a great trouble, for the tear of a woman is a great trouble, and all their travail is a great trouble. A sound heart is a continual feast, and a joyful heart is the life of man, for the joyfulness of the heart is the life of man, and the gladness of a man prolongs his days. Wealth and strength will rejoice the heart, but the fear of the Lord is above them both, for the fear of the Lord is a gift of the Lord, and it will keep you from all evil. The spirit of those that fear the Lord shall live, for their hope is in him that saves them, for he that is tried shall find understanding, and he that has experience shall be filled with wisdom. The gift of a wicked man shall not profit, for the fear of the Lord shall not be forgotten, but the gift of the ungodly shall consume, for it is given with a wicked eye. The hope of a man that is void of understanding are vain and false, and dreams lift up fools. The life of a laborer that is content is better than a rich man that is vexed with sickness, for all is turned to the earth again, and all the wickedness, and all the trouble, and all the affliction, and all the distress, and all the weariness, and all the unrighteousness.
